Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 240:
Sold for: $650
Description
This lot features a single Colt Model 1909 U.S. Army double-action revolver chambered in .45 caliber. This model was a military variation of the Colt New Service and was intended for service in the Philippines. It features a 5.5-inch barrel with a fixed blade front sight and a notched frame rear sight. The firearm is constructed with a swing-out six-shot cylinder and is fitted with smooth, dark walnut grips. The metal surfaces show evidence of a blued finish that has transitioned to a dark patina over time. Prominent markings include COLT D.A. 45 stamped on the left side of the barrel. The frame and crane are marked with the serial number 48409, and the partial serial number 8409 is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder and the cylinder latch. U.S. military inspector initials R.A.C. for Rinaldo A. Carr are located on the rear of the frame and the rear face of the cylinder. This example is missing its original lanyard ring, and the mounting hole on the butt has been professionally plugged. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The revolver is in fair to good condition, showing character consistent with long-term military service. The original bluing has mostly worn to a dark charcoal grey and plum-brown patina, exhibiting scattered surface oxidation, mottling, and areas of light pitting, most notably on the sideplate and barrel. The smooth wood grips show handling wear, scratches, and minor dings but remain solid. The action appears to function correctly in both single and double action, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The cylinder shows a light drag line and moderate oxidation within the chambers.
