Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 250:
Sold for: $55
Description
This lot consists of 100 rounds of Greek military surplus 7.92x57mm Mauser ammunition, organized into five original tan cardboard thumb-notch boxes. Each box contains 20 rounds of heavy sS (schweres Spitzgeschoß) 198-grain lead core full metal jacket projectiles. The cartridges feature brass cases with Berdan primers and a distinctive black primer sealant ring. Prominent markings on the front of each box include 20, 7,9 sS, P.C.H., and the year 1940, all contained within a black rectangular border. The manufacturer abbreviation P.C.H. stands for Poudrerie et Cartoucherie Hellénique, known in English as the Greek Powder and Cartridge Company. Individual cartridge headstamps are marked with the Greek letters E and K (Elliniko Pyritidopoieio & Kalykopoleio). This ammunition is representative of mid-20th century military ordnance and is compatible with bolt-action rifles chambered for 8mm Mauser, such as the Greek M1930 and German Kar98k.
Condition report:
The ammunition is in good overall condition. The brass cases remain relatively clean with only minor areas of tarnish or light oxidation consistent with age. The copper-alloy jackets on the projectiles appear well-preserved. All primers are seated correctly and retain their original black sealant. The five original cardboard boxes exhibit typical shelf wear, including minor foxing, edge fraying, and light staining, but they remain intact and the printed markings are clearly legible. This is vintage surplus ammunition; while it appears to be live, it has not been function-tested, and we make no guarantees regarding its reliability or safety for use.
