Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 253:
Sold for: $45
Description
This lot consists of 60 rounds of military surplus 7.92x57mm Mauser ammunition divided into four individual 15-round boxes. The grouping includes two boxes of German World War II era production manufactured in 1943. These boxes are labeled for 15 Patronen S.m.E. which refers to Spitzgeschoß mit Eisenkern or pointed bullets with an iron core. These packages feature the maker code hla for Metallwarenfabrik Treuenbrietzen GmbH and include a prominent red stamp reading Für MG indicating they were intended for machine gun use. Also included is one box of Yugoslavian surplus ammunition labeled in Cyrillic as 7,9 mm ПУШЧАНИ МЕТАК and dated 11-1954. The fourth box features a faded white label with the year 1953 partially visible. Visible cartridges show rimless brass cases with headstamps that correspond to the box labels including hla, 43, and S star markings. The projectiles are pointed full metal jacket types consistent with standard military issue specifications.
Condition report:
The ammunition is in good surplus condition with the brass cases displaying a natural aged patina and some localized areas of light surface oxidation. The boxes exhibit typical age-related wear including fading to the labels and fraying at the edges and corners. The cartridges appear to be live and have been stored in their original internal packaging.
