Description

This Colt Model 1901 U.S. Army double action revolver is chambered in .38 caliber and features a 6 inch round barrel. The firearm is finished in blue, which has largely thinned and worn to a mottled gray and brown patina with areas of surface oxidation. It is fitted with smooth walnut grips and retains its frame-mounted lanyard swivel. Prominent markings include the left barrel address COLT D.A. 38 and the top barrel address COLT’S PT F A MFG CO HARTFORD CT U S A along with patent dates PATENTED AUG. 5. 1884 NOV. 6. 88. MAR. 5. 95. The butt is stamped U.S. ARMY MODEL 1901 No 100 820 and the serial number 100820 is found on the butt, with the matching shortened serial 820 visible on the crane, frame, and underside of the barrel. The cylinder face is stamped with number 6378 and inspector initials R.A.C. for Rinaldo A. Carr, who also marked the rear of the frame and the base of the grips. The six shot cylinder remains well fitted to the frame. The trigger shows remnants of an original bright fire-blue finish. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The original blued finish shows significant thinning and wear across all surfaces, transitioning to a mottled gray and brown patina with some localized surface oxidation and light pitting. The smooth walnut furniture remains in good condition with minor handling marks, dings, and light scratches consistent with military service. The bore was not inspected. The action appears to function correctly in both single and double action modes, and the cylinder indexing and lockup appear consistent, though we have not function-tested this firearm.
