Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 271:
Sold for: $60
Description
This lot consists of a collection of 48 rounds of 6.5mm rifle ammunition from various manufacturers, housed in three separate boxes. The first is a vintage cardboard Norma box for 6.5x55mm, prominently marked with the brand name and SIX-FIVE on the face along with an Olympic Championship Match Grade Ammunition seal. Verbatim markings on the end flap identify the contents as 6.5 norma INDEX NO. 22 (6.5 x 55) 156 GR SPR, although the interior contains a variety of mixed cartridges including those with German military headstamps like P186 and P413. The second box is a modern Steinel Ammunition Co. container for 6.5 X 52 Carcano, labeled on the end flap as 139gr. FMJ 1,900 FPS (18 inch), containing cartridges with PPU 6.5×52 headstamps. The third box is a vintage Norma container for 6.5 Jap. (6.5x50mm Arisaka) ammunition, marked 156 GR SPR INDEX 14 6.5 Jap. norma on the flap and containing rounds with NORMA 6.5 JAP headstamps. The collection features a mix of soft point and full metal jacket projectiles suitable for several historic military rifle patterns.
Condition report:
The two vintage Norma boxes show significant shelf wear, including edge fraying, surface foxing, and several areas of old adhesive tape reinforcement. The modern Steinel box is in good, intact condition. The ammunition brass displays varying degrees of age-related tarnish and minor oxidation. The lead tips on the soft point projectiles show typical white oxidation from long-term storage. All cartridges appear to be live; however, we have not function-tested this ammunition.
