Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 273:
Sold for: $350
Description
This is a Soviet Russian Mosin-Nagant Model 1944 (M44) bolt-action carbine chambered in 7.62x54R, designed as a carbine-length derivative of the M91/30 rifle featuring an integral side-folding bayonet. The firearm is equipped with a approximately 20.25 inch barrel featuring a hooded post front sight and a sliding tangent rear sight graduated from 100 to 1,000 meters. The receiver and barrel exhibit a blued finish, and the carbine utilizes an integrated five-round box magazine. The two-piece wood stock features a reddish-brown finish, finger grooves, and a steel buttplate with a cleaning rod stored beneath the barrel. Key markings include the stamped Soviet hammer and sickle within a wreath on the barrel shank, the date 1944г, and the Izhevsk arsenal proof mark of an arrow inside a triangle. The serial number MX4598 is clearly stamped on the barrel shank, bolt handle, and buttplate, indicating matching components. Additional markings on the receiver include the importer information M44 RUSSIAN 7.62X54R and C.A.I. GEORGIA VT. M44077410. The action appears to function correctly, although we have not function-tested this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The blued metal finish shows moderate wear and thinning, particularly on the barrel, bolt handle, and magazine housing edges. The wood stock retains much of its original character but exhibits significant flaking and peeling of the top finish coat, along with scattered dings, scratches, and field wear consistent with military surplus service. The bore was not inspected. The action appears to function smoothly. The side-folding cruciform bayonet and locking mechanism remain in good working order.
