Description
This is an Imperial Prussian field artillery saber, designated as the Artillerie-Saebel n/A (neuer Art) based on the Model 1848/1873. The weapon features a curved, single-edged steel blade with a wide fuller extending across two-thirds of the length. The hilt is a steel P-guard design with rounded langets and a smooth backpiece, fitted with a ribbed black composition grip. The ricasso of the blade is stamped with the maker mark P.D. LUNSCHLOSS for the Solingen firm of Peter Daniel Luneschloss. On the spine of the blade near the hilt, Prussian state acceptance marks are visible, consisting of a crown over W over 00, identifying the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm II and the year of acceptance as 1900, accompanied by a smaller Gothic inspection stamp. The lateral surface of the crossguard is stamped with unit markings 50. A. 6. 3., which identifies the 50th Field Artillery Regiment (3. Niederschlesisches Feldartillerie-Regiment Nr. 50), 6th Battery, Weapon No. 3.
Blade Length – 30″
Total Length – 35″.
Condition report:
All steel components exhibit a dark, mottled patina with widespread surface oxidation and areas of light pitting consistent with age. The blade edge remains relatively sharp but shows several small nicks and scattered dark spots. The hilt is structurally sound but heavily oxidized. The ribbed black grip is in good condition, retaining its texture with only minor surface scratches. The internal leather washer at the hilt is present but compressed; the original leather finger loop is missing. This item is offered without its scabbard.
