Description

This is a Swedish Model 1914 knife bayonet and its accompanying steel scabbard, manufactured by Eskilstuna Jernmanufaktur AB for use with the m/1894 Mauser carbine and later the m/1945 Carl Gustaf submachine gun. The bayonet features a straight, single-edged polished steel blade with a deep central fuller and a spear-point tip. The hilt is constructed with a steel crossguard incorporating a muzzle ring and a recurved hook quillon. The grip is composed of two contoured walnut wood panels secured to the tang by two slotted screws. The pommel is crafted from blued steel and features a T-shaped mounting slot and a spring-loaded locking catch. The obverse ricasso is stamped with a crown over the maker mark EJ AB. The crossguard is stamped with Swedish military regimental and inventory markings, including L 14 and a serial number. The scabbard is made of sheet steel with a blued finish, featuring a round frog stud and a ball finial at the tip.

Condition report:

The blade is in very good condition, retaining much of its original polished finish with minor surface scuffing and small areas of light oxidation near the hilt. The steel hilt components show a dark, aged patina with thinning to the original bluing on the pommel. The walnut grips are well-preserved with minor indentations and typical handling marks consistent with service use. The scabbard shows moderate wear, with significant thinning and scratching to the blued finish and scattered patches of light surface oxidation throughout, though the metal remains structurally sound. The locking mechanism on the pommel is intact and functional.
