Description
A pair of triple-pocket ammunition pouches designed for the Mauser 98k rifle, constructed from natural brown leather. Each pouch contains three individual compartments intended to hold 7.92x57mm ammunition stripper clips. Each compartment features a top-folding flap secured by a vertical leather strap that fastens to a metal stud at the base. The reverse of each pouch is equipped with two leather belt loops secured by a combination of stitching and metal rivets. A metal D-ring is centered between the belt loops for attachment to combat suspenders or Y-straps. The metal hardware shows various finishes including blackened steel and brass-toned components. One pouch has a modern white inventory label with the printed or handwritten digits 33749 on the center strap. No period maker marks, dates, or manufacturer codes are visible on the exterior or interior surfaces shown.
Condition report:
Both pouches are in good service-used condition. The leather remains generally supple but exhibits surface scuffing, minor cracking at stress points, and some distortion from long-term storage. The stitching appears largely intact throughout. Metal hardware displays a natural aged patina, with green verdigris oxidation present on the copper-based rivets on the reverse. One of the closure straps has a slightly enlarged buttonhole from repeated use.
