Sold for: $500
Description
This Zastava M98/48 is a bolt-action rifle chambered in 8mm Mauser (7.92x57mm), representing a post-WWII Yugoslavian refurbishment of the German Karabiner 98k. The firearm features a standard 24-inch barrel with a blued finish that shows moderate wear and thinning, particularly on the barrel and receiver rails. It is fitted with a hardwood stock and handguard that exhibit various dings, surface scratches, and gouges consistent with military service, including the initials EWM hand-carved into the right side of the buttstock. The top of the receiver ring is stamped with the Yugoslavian socialist crest featuring six torches. Prominent markings include PREDUZECE 44 and M 98/48 on the left side of the receiver. The serial number S 05364 is stamped on the right side of the receiver and the bolt handle, with a matching number 05364 visible on the right side of the buttstock. An import mark on the right side of the barrel near the muzzle reads PW ARMS REDMOND WA YUGO ZASTAVA 8mm M98. The rifle is equipped with a cleaning rod, tangent leaf rear sights graduated to 2,000 meters, and a hooded front sight. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces retain a significant portion of their blued finish, though thinning is evident on the sharp edges, the bolt handle, and throughout the barrel. There are small areas of surface oxidation and light peppering on the receiver and trigger guard. The hardwood stock shows numerous handling marks, bruises, and the aforementioned hand-carved initials, but remains structurally sound without visible cracks. The action appears to function smoothly and correctly, though the firearm has not been function-tested or test-fired. The bore was not inspected.
