Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 389:
Sold for: $45
Description
This lot consists of two US Army Carlisle Model first aid packets, representing individual field gear from the World War I and World War II periods. The first item is a WWI-era metal tin with a lid embossed with First Aid Packet, U.S. Gov’t., Carlisle Model, and usage instructions. Below the model name is a faint stamp identifying the year 1917 and the initials R. R. A. The second item is a WWII-era metal tin manufactured by Handy Pad Supply Co. of Worcester, Massachusetts. This packet includes its original internal components: a sterile compressed gauze dressing and a small paper packet containing sulfanilamide powder. The powder packet includes printed directions for controlling hemorrhage and applying the powder, along with a warning regarding the dosage per person. Both tins are constructed of metal with embossed lettering and were originally finished in olive drab paint.
Condition report:
The 1917 WWI tin exhibits significant wear, including heavy finish loss, oxidation, and surface corrosion across the exterior. The pull tab remains attached to the side. The WWII tin is in better condition, retaining a high percentage of its original olive drab paint with minor scuffing and edge wear. The interior of the WWII lid shows a bright copper-toned finish. The internal gauze and medication packet are well-preserved. All contents are sold as historical artifacts and are not for medicinal use.
