Description
This single-shot Remington Rolling Block military-style rifle is chambered in .43 Spanish and configured for military service. The rifle features an octagonal-to-round barrel fitted with a front blade sight and a rear ladder sight. The metal surfaces retain a blued finish that shows thinning and typical surface wear from historical field use. The wood furniture consists of a full-length walnut forend secured by three barrel bands and a straight-wrist buttstock with a blued steel buttplate. Key markings include the top of the receiver tang which is stamped with E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y. U.S.A. above two lines of patent dates: PAT MAY 3D 1864 MAY 7TH JUNE 11TH NOV. 12TH DEC 24TH 1872 and DEC 31ST 1872 SEPT 9TH 1873 JAN 12TH MARCH 18TH 1874. A letter B is stamped on the left side of the barrel at the breech and a small R is located on the buttplate tang. The stock features distinct historical carvings including an arrow-like mark on the left side of the butt and a chevron on the right side. The rifle is complete with its under-barrel cleaning rod and sling swivels on the center band and buttstock. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The barrel retains significant portions of its blued finish, now thinning and turning to a dark patina with occasional surface oxidation. The receiver exhibits a darkened finish with some evidence of light wear and handling. The walnut stock is solid with numerous small dings, scratches, and older bruises consistent with military use. The action appears to function correctly with the hammer and breech block engaging positively. The bore was not inspected, and we have not function-tested this firearm.
