Sold for: $525
Description
This is an Italian M1870 Vetterli single-shot bolt action rifle chambered in 10.35x47mmR, a primary service arm of the Italian military during the late 19th century. The rifle features a full-length wooden stock with a straight wrist and a smooth buttplate, secured by a single barrel band and a forward end cap. The metal receiver and long barrel are finished in a dark, aged patina. The firearm is equipped with a graduated rear leaf sight and a fixed front post sight. Key markings include the serial number 1882 with a superscript A stamped on the left side of the barrel at the receiver junction. The right side of the chamber area is verbatim marked with the letters P and F above the manufacturer name GLISENTI. The top of the barrel is stamped BRES 74, indicating production at the Brescia arsenal in 1874. A heavily worn rectangular proof mark is present on the upper left side of the barrel. The wood stock is configured with a single trigger and shows the characteristic wear of service with numerous indentations throughout. The bore is in good condition. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The rifle exhibits a dark, aged patina across its metal surfaces with areas of surface oxidation and fine pitting, most notably on the barrel and the metal buttplate. The wood stock remains solid but displays numerous scratches, dings, and small indentations consistent with age and service use. The bore is in good condition with visible rifling. The bolt action appears to function correctly, though the firearm has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The included leather sling is heavily worn, exhibits significant cracking, and is currently detached from the rifle.
