Description
This is a Colt Police Positive Special double-action revolver chambered in .38 Colt New Police, which is functionally interchangeable with the .38 S&W cartridge. The firearm is configured with a 4-inch barrel, a fixed front blade sight, and a corresponding rear sight notch integrated into the top strap. The metal surfaces retain a blued finish showing moderate service wear, including thinning on the muzzle and high edges, along with various surface scratches and small patches of light oxidation. It is fitted with checkered black hard rubber grips featuring the Rampant Colt logo, showing light smoothing and minor handling marks. A lanyard ring is attached to the butt of the grip frame. This example has notable historical provenance, marked on the backstrap with RHKP 9162 indicating its former service with the Royal Hong Kong Police. Verbatim markings on the left side of the barrel include POLICE POSITIVE SPECIAL over .38 COLT N.P. ——— .38 S.&W. CTG. while the right side specifies COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CONN. U.S.A. The frame crane is stamped with the serial number 835289 beneath the letter E. Additional marks include a VP proof in a triangle on the left forward trigger guard and a CAI ST ALB VT import stamp on the underside of the barrel. Condition report:
The revolver is in good condition, exhibiting approximately 75% of its blued finish with visible wear, scratches, and minor thinning consistent with its law enforcement history. The bore is bright with strong, sharp rifling. The action appears to function correctly in both single and double-action modes, and the six-round cylinder shows solid lockup. The hard rubber grips are well-preserved with minor scuffs and slightly smoothed checkering but no cracks.
