Lot 401:
Sold for: $160
Description
This is a British Pattern 1913 (P1913) bayonet manufactured by the Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Company in the United States for the British government. Designed for use with the Pattern 1914 Enfield rifle, the bayonet features a long, straight, single-edged steel blade with a deep longitudinal fuller. The hilt is composed of a steel crossguard with an integrated muzzle ring and a steel pommel containing a T-shaped attachment slot and a functional spring-loaded press-stud. The handle consists of two walnut wood grip panels secured by two slotted-head bolts. These grips are notably marked with two deep transverse grooves, a design feature intended to allow soldiers to distinguish the Pattern 1913 from the Pattern 1907 bayonet by touch in low-light conditions. The obverse ricasso is stamped with the model year 1913, the production date 4 16 indicating April 1916, and the circular Remington factory mark. The reverse ricasso displays the British Broad Arrow government property mark, a crown over A 8 A inspection stamp, and an X bend-test proof mark.
Blade Length: 17 inches
Total Length: 21.5 inches.
Condition report:
The bayonet is in service-used condition. The blade exhibits a greyish patina with scattered areas of oxidation, staining, and light surface pitting, most notably near the ricasso. The steel crossguard and pommel show a darker, aged patina with significant surface oxidation and fine pitting consistent with age. The walnut wood grip scales are intact and securely fastened, displaying darkening from age and handling with minor indentations and wear to the grooved sections. This listing includes the bayonet only; no scabbard is present.
