Lot 419:
Sold for: $30
Description
This collection features four original, unopened field dressings issued to the U.S. Army during the World War II era. All items are of the Carlisle Model pattern, designed to be carried in a specialized webbing pouch on the individual equipment belt. The group contains two Small Battle Dressings and two Small First-Aid Dressings, all housed in their original printed cardstock containers. The Battle Dressings were produced by Handy Pad Supply Co. of Worcester, Massachusetts, and distributed by Conray Products Company. One is a standard sterilized version specifically dated February 19, 1943, with Stock No. 2-395 and Contract No. N140S-16964A. The second is a sterilized camouflaged version with Stock No. 2-396 and Contract No. N140S-63161A. The first-aid dressings include an example manufactured by Convenience, Inc. of Greenville, South Carolina, under Contract No. M65476, and a specimen manufactured by Johnson & Johnson of New Brunswick, New Jersey, under Contract No. W603 MD13731 M53115. Two of the packages retain their original clear protective cellophane overwrap. Each container features specific printed instructions for opening and application, noting that the red color indicates the back of the dressing to ensure the sterile side is placed against the wound.
Dimensions: 4 x 2.25 x 1 inches per box (approximate).
Condition report:
All items are in original, unopened condition. The cardstock packaging exhibits characteristic age-related toning, yellowing, and minor shelf wear. The Johnson & Johnson package shows more pronounced surface foxing and staining. The clear cellophane wraps on two examples demonstrate age-related brittleness and light creasing but remain largely intact. Overall, the collection is in good to very good vintage condition.
