Sold for: $1,000
Description
This Colt Model 1849 Pocket single action percussion revolver is chambered in .31 caliber and features a 4-inch octagonal barrel with a five-shot cylinder. The firearm exhibits an all matching number configuration with the serial number 99931 stamped on the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, and butt, while the loading lever is marked with the partial number 9931. Verbatim markings on the top of the barrel specify ADDRESS SAML COLT over NEW YORK CITY flanked by scrolled brackets, and the left side of the frame is marked COLTS PATENT. The cylinder is marked COLTS PATENT and No 99931 featuring a partially visible engraved stagecoach holdup scene. The metal surfaces display a dark aged patina with traces of original bluing on the barrel and case hardening on the frame. The trigger guard and backstrap are silver-plated brass, showing significant wear with exposed brass. The revolver is equipped with one-piece walnut grips that show minor dings and handling wear. Included with the lot is a modern hair-on-hide soft case with brown leather trim and zipper closures. The takedown pin is loose. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The revolver is in very good antique condition with a consistent dark patina across the steel components. Faint traces of bluing remain on the barrel flats and case colors are visible on the frame under favorable lighting. The cylinder scene is visible but worn. The silver plating on the brass trigger guard and backstrap is worn through in several areas. The walnut grips are well-preserved with typical handling marks. The bore is dark with visible rifling and some pitting consistent with age and use. The action appears to function correctly, although the takedown pin is loose and requires attention.
