Lot 47:
US WWII M1943 Ames Entrenching Tool Dated 1944
Sold for: $45
Description
This single M1943 folding entrenching tool consists of a steel spade-shaped blade joined to a hinged neck and a turned wooden handle. The design allows the head to be locked in either a 90-degree position for use as a pick or a 180-degree position for use as a shovel, secured by a knurled, threaded locking collar. The wooden handle features a rounded butt with a factory-drilled hole. The face of the blade, located just below the hinge assembly, bears the stamped manufacturer mark AMES and is dated 1944.
Condition report:
the item is in good, used surplus condition. The metal components exhibit a darkened patina with areas of surface oxidation and significant loss of the original olive drab green finish. The wooden handle shows heavy wear with most of the original paint worn away, exposing the wood grain. The locking mechanism and hinge assembly are intact and functional.
