Sold for: $190
Description
This is an empty Romanian military wooden ammunition crate, measuring approximately 19 inches by 13.5 inches by 6 inches, originally designed to transport 7.92x57mm Mauser cartridges. The crate is constructed from natural-finished wood planks and is reinforced with green-painted metal hinges and latch hardware. It features integrated wooden lid cleats and side-mounted wooden block handles for transport. The front face of the crate is marked with several prominent black stenciled identifiers including 7,92 LPS GS, md 71, 680 buc, S 28-78-22, VT- 9/78 U, and PE LAME, which indicates the original contents consisted of 680 pieces of LPS-type ammunition loaded on stripper clips. The lid displays a stenciled triangle containing the numeral 2 and a faint weight marking of 24 kg. The interior is currently empty and retains a corrugated bottom lining. This item is offered as a collectible storage container and contains no live ammunition or components.
Condition report:
The crate is in good military surplus condition, showing physical wear consistent with long-term storage and field handling. The wooden surfaces exhibit various scuffs, scratches, and minor staining typical for an item of this nature. The green-painted metal hinges and latches remain functional, though they display areas of paint loss and light surface oxidation. The interior lining is intact but shows moderate age-related discoloration. Structurally, the box is sound with all wooden components and fasteners securely in place.
