Description

US Model 1816 socket bayonet designed for use with muzzle-loading muskets. The item features a triangular-section blade with a deep single fuller on the upper face and a socket featuring a T-shaped locking slot. The ricasso is struck with a rectangular stamp containing two rows of characters: the top row shows the letters WB and the bottom row contains a single character, likely an S or a B. The socket is marked with a single stamped letter K near the locking slot. This pattern is characteristic of American military arms production from the early-to-mid 19th century, which heavily utilized French design patterns from the Napoleonic era.

Blade Length: 16 inches
Total Length: 19 inches.

Condition report:

The bayonet is in relic condition, showing heavy overall oxidation and deep pitting across all metal surfaces. The point is rounded and the edges are softened due to age and corrosion. The locking slot remains intact and functional.
