Lot 516:
Sold for: $200
Description
This is a sporterized bolt action rifle built on an Imperial German Mauser Karabiner 98 receiver, chambered for the 7.92x57mm Mauser cartridge. The rifle features a blued finish on the barrel and receiver and is equipped with a hooded ramp front sight and a Lyman aperture receiver sight. The bolt has been modified with a turned-down handle and a checkered knob. The firearm is mounted in a replacement wood sporter stock featuring a pistol grip, a raised cheekpiece, and a black checkered buttplate marked with the Bishop brand name. Key markings include a crown over Erfurt and the date 1916 stamped on the receiver ring, identifying its manufacture at the Royal Prussian Rifle Factory. The left side of the receiver is marked Kar. 98. in Gothic script, and the serial number 8957n is visible on the receiver, barrel, and magazine floorplate, accompanied by several Imperial German crown proof marks. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in good overall condition. The blued finish on the metal components shows moderate thinning and some silvering at the edges from handling. The wood stock remains in good condition with minor dings, shallow scratches, and handling marks throughout, but no visible cracks. The action appears to function correctly, though the rifle has not been function-tested or test-fired. The bore was not inspected.
