Description

A Swiss Model 1918 (M1918) bayonet and its corresponding blued steel scabbard, manufactured by Waffenfabrik Neuhausen. This pattern was designed for use with the Schmidt-Rubin Model 1911 carbine and the Model 1931 (K31) short rifle. The bayonet features a straight, double-edged bright steel blade with a dagger profile and no fullers. The hilt construction consists of a steel crossguard with a muzzle ring and a steel pommel containing an internal spring-loaded push-button release mechanism. The grip is composed of two smooth wooden scales secured to the tang by two steel rivets. The ricasso is stamped with the arched manufacturer mark Waffenfabrik Neuhausen. The front of the crossguard is stamped with the serial number 57337. The underside of the lower quillon bears a Swiss federal cross mark below a circular O inspection stamp. The scabbard is made of blued steel with a ball finial and includes an attached leather retention strap secured to the frog stud.

Condition report:

The bayonet and scabbard are in very good to fine condition. The blade remains bright with minimal surface wear or oxidation. The wood grip scales show light handling marks but are free of cracks or significant losses. The steel pommel and crossguard show minor scuffing and light surface patina. The scabbard retains a high percentage of its original blued finish with some light surface wear, and the leather retention strap is intact and appears supple.
