Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 532:
Sold for: $80
Description
This lot consists of 80 rounds of Greek military surplus 7.92x57mm Mauser ammunition, manufactured in 1940 by Poudrerie et Cartoucherie Hellénique (P.C.H.). The cartridges are the 198-grain sS (schweres Spitzgeschoß) heavy ball variety, featuring spire-point, full metal jacket projectiles seated in brass casings. The ammunition is organized into four original light brown cardboard boxes, each containing 20 rounds in a staggered, head-to-toe configuration. Verbatim markings on the exterior of the boxes include the quantity 20, the caliber and load designation 7,9 sS, the manufacturer code P.C.H., and the production year 1940 within a black rectangular border. The headstamps are marked with the characters E, K, and a character resembling a U or Greek Pi, and the primers are finished with a black sealant ring. The boxes exhibit minor foxing, staining, and light shelf wear consistent with their age, while the cartridges display a natural, even tarnish.
Condition report:
The ammunition is in very good original condition, with the brass casings and copper-jacketed bullets showing a light, natural patina. The black primer sealant remains intact across the lot. The original cardboard packaging is structurally sound but displays typical age-related foxing, minor surface staining, and wear to the corners and edges. The ammunition appears to be live and well-preserved.
