Lot 546:
Sold for: $350
Description
This Japanese Arisaka Type 38 bolt-action rifle is chambered in 6.5x50mmSR Arisaka and features a 31.4-inch barrel. The rifle is configured with a full-length two-piece wood stock showing the characteristic visible horizontal joint at the butt and a rectangular brand on the right side. The top of the receiver ring has been ground to remove the imperial chrysanthemum mark, which is common for surrendered Japanese service rifles. Stamped on the receiver bridge is the model designation 三八式 and the left side of the receiver bears the serial number CC76068 followed by the Koishikawa/Kokura arsenal three-interlocking-circle mark. A single character 文 is visible on the top of the barrel shank, typically indicating the rifle was transferred for educational or school use. The metal surfaces retain a blued finish showing age-related thinning and wear consistent with military service. The rifle is equipped with a ladder-style rear sight and a winged front sight; however, the cleaning rod is missing from this specimen. The bolt action appears to cycle and function, though we have not function-tested this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in fair overall condition. The blued finish exhibits significant thinning, handling wear, and areas of light surface oxidation on the barrel and receiver. The bore is dark with visible rifling and displays some frosting throughout. The wood stock shows numerous dings, scratches, and service-related impressions but remains structurally sound. The bolt action cycles smoothly and the trigger mechanism is functional. The cleaning rod is absent.
