Description

This is a Brazilian Modelo 1908 bolt action military rifle manufactured by Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken in Berlin. Chambered in 7x57mm Mauser (7mm Mauser), this rifle features a 29-inch barrel equipped with a standard military-style blade front sight and a tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. The receiver is constructed of steel and retains a worn blued finish transitioning to a grey-brown patina. The full-length wood stock features a straight wrist and a smooth buttplate, exhibiting significant service wear consistent with age and field use. The rifle is equipped with a cleaning rod and dual sling swivels. Key markings include the receiver ring stamped with PM 01197.16 over MOD. 1908. and the left side of the receiver rail marked DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN BERLIN. The left side of the receiver also displays SER. 196500573, B 4220, a (B) proof, and Bh. The trigger guard is marked 4220 with a (B) proof. This example features a non-matching floorplate numbered 25 and a non-matching turned-down bolt handle numbered 2557. A large, professionally executed splice repair is visible on the right side of the stock behind the receiver. While the action appears to function correctly, we have not function-tested or test-fired this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The metal finish shows a significant amount of original bluing on the barrel and receiver, with expected thinning on high edges and a transition to a mottled grey-brown patina. Light surface oxidation and scattered pinprick pitting are present on the receiver and bolt assembly. The wood stock is in fair to good condition, showing numerous dings, scratches, and pressure dents from service. A notable splice repair is located on the right side of the wrist. The bore is not clearly visible in the provided images but the external barrel condition is consistent with the rest of the firearm. The bolt action and trigger mechanisms appear functional, though the rifle should be inspected by a gunsmith before use.
