Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 552:
Sold for: $160
Description
This is a sporterized Japanese Arisaka Type 99 bolt-action rifle, with barrel markings and user provided data indicating it is chambered in .300 caliber. The rifle features a modified barrel fitted with an aftermarket front sight marked CHRISTY and a barrel-mounted folding leaf rear sight, as the original military ladder sight and wooden handguard have been removed. Prominent markings include the characters 九九式 (Type 99) on the receiver ring located directly below a heavily ground Imperial Chrysanthemum. The barrel shank is stamped with the caliber 300, and the left side of the receiver displays the serial number 395111 followed by the Nagoya Arsenal symbol. The original military wood stock has been shortened into a sporter configuration and refinished with a dark, heavy varnish. The rifle is equipped with a turned-down bolt handle, a steel buttplate, and a side-mounted sling swivel on the buttstock. The metal surfaces retain a blued finish which shows thinning and wear consistent with its age and history. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The blued finish on the barrel and receiver shows significant thinning and wear from handling. Light surface oxidation is visible throughout the metal surfaces, with more pronounced oxidation and surface pitting present on the steel buttplate. The ground-off Imperial Chrysanthemum has left visible circular grinding marks on the receiver ring. The modified wood stock displays various dings, scratches, and impressions beneath the heavy varnish finish. The bore was not inspected. The bolt action appears to move smoothly and the trigger functions, though we have not function-tested this firearm.
