Description

This lot features a single bolt action rifle, a sporterized conversion of a U.S. Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen chambered in .30-40 Krag. The firearm is equipped with a blued barrel of approximately 24 inches in length. The metal finish shows overall thinning and silvering, particularly on the receiver and the characteristic side-loading magazine door. It is fitted with a custom-checkered wood stock featuring a pistol grip, a Monte Carlo-style cheekpiece, and a brown rubber Pachmayr White Line recoil pad marked TRADE WHITE LINE MARK, Pachmayr ® GUN WORKS, LOS ANGELES 15, CALIFORNIA U.S.A. The original military sights have been upgraded to a ramped blade front sight and a receiver-mounted aperture peep sight. Prominent markings on the left side of the receiver are transcribed as U. S., MODEL 1898., SPRINGFIELD ARMORY., and the serial number 310733. A notable crack is present in the wood at the wrist, extending from the bottom of the cheekpiece towards the checkering. We have not function-tested this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The blued finish exhibits widespread thinning and wear with silvering on the edges and high points, most noticeably on the magazine door and receiver. The bore has not been visually inspected. The action appears to function smoothly, although it has not been tested for live fire. The custom wood stock shows various handling marks, dings, and scratches consistent with field use, and includes a significant structural crack at the wrist area that may require professional repair. The recoil pad remains intact with some light scuffing at the toe.
