Lot 569:
A Lot of 18 Società Metallurgica Italiana Model 38 Ammunition 7.35x51mm Carcano 1939
Sold for: $55
Description
This lot consists of a group of 18 rounds of original Italian military ammunition manufactured by Società Metallurgica Italiana at their Fornaci di Barga plant. The set includes three steel en-bloc clips, each containing six cartridges, housed within their original cardboard storage box. The ammunition is 7.35x51mm Carcano caliber, specifically designed for use with the Italian Model 38 series of firearms. The cartridges feature brass casings and copper-jacketed round-nose bullets. Verbatim markings on the packaging include SOCIETA METALLURGICA ITALIANA, STABILIMENTO DI FORNACI DI BARGA, N. 3 CARICATORI DI CARTUCCE A PALLOTTOLA, CAL. 7,35, PER ARMI MOD. 38, and POLVERE ALLA NITROCELLULOSA PURA. A purple ink stamp on the bottom of the box reads 6 040 005 1, 2 C 39. The black-finished steel clips are stamped with SMI and 939, indicating production in 1939. The original cardboard box features a woven cloth pull tab secured by a metal staple for quick access.
Condition report:
The ammunition and clips are in good condition for their age. The brass casings and copper-jacketed bullets exhibit varying degrees of natural tarnish and patina consistent with historical military surplus. The three steel en-bloc clips retain the majority of their original black finish with some scattered areas of light surface wear and minor oxidation. The original cardboard packaging shows typical light shelf wear, minor staining, and some softening at the corners, though it remains structurally intact with the pull tab present. The ammunition appears live and stable, though it is intended for display and collecting purposes and has not been tested for discharge.
