Lot 570:
Springfield Armory Model 1894 Krag-Jørgensen Bolt Action Sporterized Rifle .30-40 Krag with 22 Inch Barrel Antique
Sold for: $450
Description
This is a U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1894 Krag-Jørgensen bolt action rifle that has been modified into a sporterized carbine configuration. Chambered for the .30-40 Krag cartridge, the rifle features a barrel of approximately 22 inches in length and the signature hinged side-loading magazine box on the right side of the receiver. The metal components exhibit a worn blued finish that has transitioned to a dark mottled patina with areas of surface oxidation and light pitting. The sporterized walnut stock features a straight wrist and a shortened forend with finger grooves, showing heavy field wear including numerous dings, scratches, and a very faint, illegible inspector’s cartouche on the left side of the wrist. The rifle is equipped with an aftermarket receiver-mounted rear aperture peep sight and a ramped front blade sight. Key markings include the left side of the receiver stamped with U.S., 1894., SPRINGFIELD ARMORY., and the serial number 17379. The steel buttplate features a hinged trapdoor and displays several crude, intentional cross-hatched scratches. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces show a dark, aged patina with significant thinning of the original blued finish, accompanied by moderate surface oxidation and light pitting throughout the receiver and barrel. The bore was not inspected. The bolt action appears to function correctly, though it has not been live-fire tested. The walnut stock is in fair condition with heavy handling wear, numerous indentations, and scratches consistent with field use. The markings on the receiver remain legible, while the stock cartouche is nearly worn away. The buttplate shows significant wear and intentional scoring.
