Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 574:
Sold for: $55
Description
This lot consists of 100 rounds of 7.92x57mm Mauser centerfire rifle ammunition produced by the Greek Powder and Cartridge Company, also known as Pousika-Cartoucherie Hellenique (P.C.H.). The cartridges are the 7,9 sS configuration, designating a heavy pointed bullet (schweres Spitzgeschoß), which typically features a 198-grain lead core with a full metal jacket. The ammunition is housed in five original 20-round cardboard boxes. Each box is printed with verbatim markings in black ink that read 20 / 7,9 sS / P.C.H. / 1940. The cartridges feature brass casings with a natural aged patina and headstamps marked with the characters E, K, L, and U (corresponding to the Greek letters Ε, Κ, Λ, and Υ) at the cardinal positions. The primer pockets are finished with a black circular sealant. The spitzer-point projectiles exhibit a dark, oxidized patina consistent with mid-20th-century surplus storage.
Condition report:
The ammunition and packaging are in good surplus condition. The brass cases show age-related darkening and a uniform patina but are free of significant corrosion, cracks, or splits. The bullets show similar surface oxidation to the copper-alloy jackets. All five cardboard boxes remain structurally sound and intact, showing typical shelf wear, light staining, and minor corner fraying. The ammunition appears to be in live, original condition, although we have not function-tested these rounds for reliable ignition.
