Lot 582:
Sold for: $200
Description
This is a Swiss Schmidt-Rubin Model 1896/11 straight-pull bolt-action rifle, chambered in 7.5x55mm Swiss, which has been modified into a sporting configuration. The rifle features a full-length barrel retaining its original military tangent rear sight graduated from 300 to 1500 meters and a post front sight mounted on a barrel band. The action is the distinctive straight-pull design associated with the Schmidt-Rubin system, featuring a bolt handle with a reddish-brown composite knob. The walnut stock has been sporterized by shortening the forend and removing the original military handguard, though it retains the factory steel buttplate. Key markings include the serial number 291532 clearly stamped on the left side of the receiver and the top of the barrel shank, indicating matching primary components. Swiss military proof marks are present, including a Swiss cross and a BP proof mark on the receiver ring and barrel. The rifle is fitted with a single detachable box magazine and a standard trigger guard. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces retain a fair amount of bluing, which shows significant thinning, edge wear, and scattered surface oxidation, particularly on the receiver and bolt assembly. The barrel shows a mix of bluing and a brown patina with some light surface pitting towards the muzzle. The bore shows good rifling with some darkness in the grooves. The sporterized walnut stock exhibits numerous dings, scratches, and small pressure dents consistent with field use, and the finish is worn. The action appears to function smoothly, though it has not been live-fire tested. The steel buttplate is heavily oxidized with significant surface pitting. The reddish-brown bolt knob is intact with minor surface wear.
