Description
This collection consists of an assortment of original United States military issue medical, chemical defense, and personal care items dating from the World War I and World War II eras. The group includes two unopened packages of Johnson and Johnson Zonas Gauze Bandage, both labeled with Contract No. 854 and dated July 1918. Representing World War II medical supplies are a compressed gauze dressing manufactured by The American White Cross Labs., Inc., dated September 30, 1942; a brown glass bottle of Abbott Laboratories Halazone water purification tablets; a boxed Orthotolidine water testing kit by Empire Findings Co.; a box of six iodine swabs by Handy Pad Supply Co.; and a Halco brand ammonia ampoule. Defense and personal items include a brass-toned Anti-Dimming Outfit Mk VI tin used for gas mask maintenance, an olive drab metal cylinder for protective ointment or detector paint with printed instructions, and a small cardboard box for razor blades. Manufacturer names, contract numbers, and instructional text are present and legible on the various containers and paper packaging.
Condition report:
The items are in good vintage condition, exhibiting age-appropriate wear consistent with long-term storage of military surplus. The paper and cardboard packaging shows light surface staining, toning, and minor shelf wear to the edges and corners. Metal tins and cylinders show areas of minor surface oxidation and light paint loss. The items appear to be unopened and the printed labels remain clear and legible.
