Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 615:
Sold for: $250
Description
This is a sporterized Arisaka Type 44 bolt-action rifle chambered in 6.5x50mm, originally produced as a military carbine. The rifle features a 19 inch barrel that has been modified through the removal of the original folding bayonet assembly. The receiver and barrel retain a consistent blued finish, while the action is mounted in a custom high-gloss finished walnut stock featuring a Monte Carlo comb, a raised cheekpiece, and a contrasting dark forend tip. Sighting is provided by a ramped blade front sight and the original military-style folding ladder rear sight. The butt is finished with a brown checkered plastic buttplate featuring a shield logo. Key markings include an intact 16-petal Japanese Imperial chrysanthemum on the receiver bridge above the characters 四四式 (Type 44). The left side of the receiver is marked with serial number 2416 followed by a circular arsenal mark. Note that the original military bayonet housing and associated hardware are missing from the forend. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces retain approximately 85 percent of the blued finish with light thinning on the bolt handle and high edges of the receiver. The bore is bright with strong, well-defined rifling. The bolt action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The custom stock is in very good condition, exhibiting minor handling marks and light dings consistent with field use, with the high-gloss finish remaining mostly intact. The buttplate shows light scuffing at the heel and toe.
