Lot 621:

Description
This is a Japanese Heiwa-shiki Peace Type bolt action training rifle, originally intended for youth and school military instruction during the early 20th century. The rifle is configured for single-shot operation and features a smoothbore barrel approximately 31 inches in length. The receiver displays two gas vent holes and the vertically stacked characters transcribed as 平, 和, and 式, identifying it as the Peace Type model. The metal finish shows a worn blued appearance that has transitioned into a heavy brown and grey patina throughout. Verbatim markings include the serial number 252 on the barrel band and 00 on the bolt handle. The furniture consists of a full-length wood stock with the characteristic two-piece buttstock construction, a full handguard, and a steel buttplate. The stock shows several carvings, including the characters 川口川 on the right side and a rectangular stamp containing the character 東 on the left. The rifle is fitted with a ladder-style rear sight, a blade front sight, and a large, knurled Arisaka-pattern safety knob. This item demonstrates heavy field wear with numerous dings and scratches to the wood, consistent with its historical usage. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal finish is in fair condition, exhibiting significant bluing wear, thinning, and widespread surface patina with areas of light surface oxidation. The smoothbore is dark with evidence of past use. The wood stock is in fair to good condition, showing numerous dings, scratches, and impact marks, along with the noted carvings on the buttstock. The action appears to function smoothly, although we have not function-tested this firearm.
