Description

This is a single-shot lever-action Martini-Henry Mark II rifle chambered in .577/450 caliber. It features a 33-inch barrel equipped with a fixed front blade sight and a rear flip-up ladder sight graduated from 100 to 400 yards on the base. The action utilizes the classic falling block design operated by a short lever located behind the trigger guard. The right side of the receiver is prominently stamped with a crown over the letters V.R for Victoria Regina, followed by ENFIELD, the year 1877, and the Roman numerals I over I denoting the Mark II designation. The top of the receiver is marked with the letters S.X, typically signifying a steel barrel and proofing for standard service ammunition. The left side of the receiver bears various British military markings, including a crown over V.R above crossed flags and 2 P, as well as B over 32 and the number 7. The rifle is fitted with a full-length walnut stock secured by two barrel bands, with a cleaning rod stored in the forend. Sling swivels are attached to the middle barrel band and the front of the trigger guard. The right side of the buttstock is stamped with the letter K, and the metal buttplate features hand-scratched markings resembling the letter Y and a crossed mark or 7. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.

Condition report:

The metal surfaces show a worn gray-brown patina with visible surface oxidation and patches of pitting, particularly on the receiver and the barrel. The markings on the receiver remain mostly legible. The walnut stock exhibits significant field wear with numerous dings, scratches, and impressions throughout, consistent with military service. The action appears to function correctly, although we have not function-tested this firearm for safety or live firing. The cleaning rod is present but shows oxidation. The bore has not been inspected.
