Lot 63:
Sold for: $775
Description
This is a single German Karabiner 98k bolt-action rifle chambered in 8mm Mauser, originally manufactured by Steyr-Daimler-Puch and later refurbished for the commercial market. The rifle features a 23.6-inch barrel with a deep blued finish that extends across the receiver, barrel bands, and trigger guard, while the bolt assembly is finished in polished white. The furniture consists of a laminated wood stock with a flat metal buttplate and a through-stock sling mount. This example is fitted with a modern AIM 2-7×32 telescopic sight with a duplex reticle, mounted to a scout-style rail attached to the rear sight base, complemented by a hooded front sight. Verbatim markings on the receiver ring include the manufacturer code bnz. above the year 41. The serial number 8885 with a d suffix is present on the receiver, barrel, bolt handle, bolt shroud, and safety, and is also stamped into the left side of the buttstock. Numerous Waffenamt WaA623 proof marks are found on the receiver and barrel. The barrel is also marked with the import stamp Ger 8mm MMC S.A. CA 46902. A brown synthetic sling is included. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle presents in very good condition, showing evidence of a professional refurbishment. The blued finish on the metal components is uniform with only negligible handling marks. The bolt assembly is clean and highly polished. The laminated wood stock is attractive with well-defined grain and sharp serial number stampings, showing very few superficial dings. The optics are clear and the reticle is sharp. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm.
