Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 64:
Sold for: $450
Description
This lot consists of a single factory-sealed Soviet military surplus ammunition container, commonly referred to as a spam can, holding 1092 rounds of 7.62x38R Nagant revolver ammunition. Developed for use with the Nagant M1895 revolver, these cartridges utilize a unique design where the bullet is seated below the case mouth to facilitate a gas seal within the firearm’s cylinder. The metal container is finished in its original olive drab paint and features stenciled black markings in Cyrillic. Verbatim transcriptions of the stenciled text on the lid include the top line 7,62Р гл, the middle line Д64-77-38 followed by П-45 5/76 С, and the bottom line 1092 шт. One side of the can is additionally stenciled with the lot number Д64. Based on the stenciled codes, this lot was produced at the Yuryuzan Mechanical Plant (factory code 38) in 1977. The container remains factory-sealed, maintaining the ammunition in its original long-term storage condition as specified for military issue.
Condition report:
The ammunition container is in very good condition and remains completely factory-sealed. The exterior olive drab paint finish is largely intact, showing only minor surface scratches, light abrasions, and small areas of paint wear consistent with standard military handling and crate storage. There is no evidence of significant rust, pitting, or breaches in the metal seal. The black stenciled markings remain sharp and highly legible. As the container is sealed, the individual cartridges have not been inspected but are presumed to be in clean, serviceable, live condition.
