Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 664:
Sold for: $100
Description
This lot features a collection of 30 rounds of centerfire rifle ammunition, consisting of 20 rounds of .43 Mauser ammunition and 10 rounds of 7.5×54 French ammunition. The 7.5x54mm French cartridges were manufactured by Prvi Partizan (PPU) and are loaded with 139-grain full metal jacket (FMJ) projectiles. The original blue cardboard box for this ammunition is marked “PPU Ammunition,” “20 Centerfire Rifle Cartridges,” “7,5×54 French,” and “FMJ 9,0 g 139 gr.” The individual cartridges are identified by the headstamp “PPU 7,5×54.” The .43 Mauser cartridges are housed in a red and white Bertram Bullet Co. box and feature rimmed brass cases with lead round-nose projectiles. Verbatim markings on this box include “BERTRAM BULLET CO. PTY. LTD.,” “UNPRIMED BRASS CASES” with a black strike-through, “20 CENTRE FIRE,” and a hand-written “43 MAUSER” designation. The lot presents a mixture of factory-new and vintage ammunition components. The Bertram rounds show a darker patina on the brass cases and oxidation on the lead projectiles consistent with age, while the PPU ammunition appears relatively clean. Both containers show significant shelf wear, including surface scuffing, edge fraying, and staining.
Condition report:
The ammunition appears to be in good overall condition. The 10 rounds of Prvi Partizan 7.5x54mm French show bright brass cases and clean FMJ projectiles without significant corrosion. The 20 rounds of .43 Mauser show a dull, darkened patina on the brass cases and typical oxidation on the lead round-nose projectiles. Both boxes exhibit heavy shelf wear, including scuffing, edge tears, and corner fraying; the Bertram box additionally features a yellow price sticker and handwritten ink markings. All primers appear to be intact and unspent. This ammunition has not been function-tested, and as with all vintage or older production cartridges, they are sold as collectibles with no guarantee of performance or safety.
