Description
This single bolt action rifle is a sporterized Chilean Mauser Modelo 1895 chambered in 7x57mm Mauser. The firearm features a full length 29 inch stepped military barrel with two small open holes on the top of the barrel where the original military rear sight was previously mounted. The metal surfaces retain a blued finish that shows thinning and a transition to a mottled brown patina consistent with age and field use. Key markings include the model and manufacturer information on the left side of the receiver, transcribed as MAUSER CHILENO MODELO 1895. and MANUFACTURA LOEWE BERLIN. The serial number D 9 9 1 2 is clearly struck on the receiver ring, the barrel shank, and the bolt handle. A faint Chilean coat of arms crest is visible on the receiver ring. The wood stock has been modified into a sporter configuration with the upper handguard removed and the forend shortened. It is fitted with a brown Pachmayr White Line rubber recoil pad and features sling swivels on the underside. Sighting is provided by a Lyman ramped blade front sight and a Williams aperture receiver sight mounted to the rear. The bolt handle has been turned down to provide clearance for the receiver sight. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The metal finish shows widespread thinning and a brown patina with scattered surface oxidation, light scratches, and silvering at the edges. The wood stock is in good overall condition despite its modifications, showing various handling marks, dings, and scratches consistent with service life. The bore was not inspected, but the bolt action appears to function smoothly. The Pachmayr recoil pad shows some age-related wear but remains intact. There are two small open holes on the top of the barrel from the removal of the original military sight.
