Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 668:
Sold for: $40
Description
A trio of standard-issue United States military field canteens with insulated canvas covers, representing the M1910 pattern utilized during the World War II and Korean War eras. The lot includes three metal canteens, likely aluminum or stainless steel, each housed in a vertical-quilted canvas carrier. Two of the covers are constructed from early-war khaki tan canvas, while the third is finished in later-war Olive Drab (OD) number 7 green canvas. All three covers feature twin securing flaps with blackened brass snap fasteners and rear wire hangers for attachment to a pistol or utility belt. The canteens are fitted with black plastic vertical-ribbed caps, a standard design change adopted in 1942 to conserve aluminum for aircraft production. One canteen on the far right retains its original metal link attachment chain for the cap. The front of the leftmost and rightmost covers are stenciled with U.S. in black block lettering, the official property mark of the United States.
Condition report:
The items are in good vintage condition showing signs of authentic military field use. There is visible fading and age-toning to the canvas material, along with scattered staining and soil marks. The leftmost cover has a prominent reddish-brown stain on the side. The metal snap hardware exhibits minor oxidation and verdigris. Plastic caps show typical surface wear but appear intact.
