Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 682:
Sold for: $160
Description
This lot consists of 150 rounds of .303 British centerfire rifle ammunition mounted on steel stripper clips, accompanied by three canvas bandoliers and a US military ammunition storage can. The cartridges are rimmed rounds consistent with the British military issue for Lee-Enfield pattern rifles. The ammunition is loaded onto five-round steel charger clips characterized by three circular cutouts on each side panel. Several clips are marked with the stamped letters TFS and the number 4.
The three khaki canvas bandoliers are of British or Commonwealth military pattern, each featuring multiple pockets designed to hold ammunition clips. One bandolier bears a black ink stamp reading RG 6 9 45A, indicating manufacture at the Radway Green Royal Ordnance Factory in the United Kingdom, with a date of September 1945.
The collection is contained within a United States M19A1-style steel ammunition box with an olive drab green finish. The front of the can features yellow stenciled markings originally for 7.62mm NATO ammunition, including: 200 CARTRIDGES, 7.62MM, CARTONS, 1-M62-4 M80, and TW-L-82203-Y. The TW prefix designates the Twin Cities Ordnance Plant. An adhesive paper label on the top lid is handwritten with British .303 WWII.
Condition report:
The items are in good military surplus condition. The steel ammunition can shows typical surface wear, including scratches, minor paint loss, and small areas of surface oxidation, particularly on the lid edges and latch mechanism. The canvas bandoliers show expected age-related toning, light staining, and minor fraying at the edges but remain structurally sound. The brass cartridge casings exhibit a natural aged patina, and the steel stripper clips show surface darkening and light oxidation.
