Description

This lot consists of one sealed military-surplus metal ammunition container, commonly referred to as a “spam can,” which contains 440 rounds of 7.62x54mmR caliber ammunition. This item is a sealed spam can of 7.62 caliber ammunition of previously unknown caliber and quantity, now identified through its lid markings. The container holds cartridges with LPS Light Steel Core projectiles and bimetallic copper-washed steel cases. Verbatim markings stenciled in black on the lid include 7,62 ЛПС гж and 11-72-188, indicating the ammunition was produced as lot 11 in 1972 at Factory 188, the Novosibirsk Cartridge Plant. Additional markings specify the propellant as ВТ over 46/71 К and confirm the quantity as 440 ШТ. This ammunition is intended for use in rifles such as the Mosin-Nagant, SVD, or PKM machine guns. The container remains factory-sealed with its original soldered lid, and no opening tool is included with the lot.

Condition report:

The metal container exhibits significant surface oxidation, areas of surface rust, and general discoloration throughout its exterior, with heavier corrosion noted along the soldered seams and corners. Despite the superficial oxidation, the can remains structurally sound and factory-sealed. The black stenciled markings are mostly clear and legible, though they show some minor fading and scuffing. The ammunition inside is live and is assumed to be in original unissued condition, though the propellant and primers have not been function-tested.
