Lot 82:
Sold for: $65
Description
Swedish Model 1896 bayonet designed for use with the 6.5mm M1896 Mauser rifle. This example features an all-steel construction with a hollow tubular grip detailed with integral diamond cross-hatching. The hilt is composed of a straight crossguard with a recurved lower quillon and an open muzzle ring. The pommel terminates in a distinctive cone-shaped locking nut with knurled edges. The single-edged steel blade includes a deep fuller extending most of its length and terminates in a spear point. The blade ricasso is stamped vertically with the letters E.A.B., identifying the manufacturer as the firm of Erik Anton Berg of Eskilstuna, Sweden. The obverse ricasso bears a Swedish royal crown acceptance mark positioned over a three-digit manufacturer code 088. The accompanying steel scabbard features a frog stud and ball-tipped finial. The scabbard throat is stamped with unit markings following the standard Swedish format of regiment, company, and rack number, including the character B and the designation L 15 No 613. The scabbard finial is stamped with the secondary number 945.
Condition report:
The blade is in good condition, retaining a bright finish with light scabbard wear and scattered spots of minor surface oxidation. The hilt shows a consistent dark grey steel patina, with the diamond knurling remaining crisp and well-defined. The scabbard retains a significant portion of its original black-painted finish, showing expected thinning, surface scratches, and localized areas of oxidation consistent with field use. The unit markings are sharply struck and easily legible.
