Lot 89:
Sold for: $180
Description
A pair of original World War I US Army Model 1910 dismounted cartridge belts manufactured by the Mills Woven Cartridge Belt Company and L.C.C. & Company. These belts are constructed from heavy woven khaki cotton canvas and feature ten individual pockets, each designed to hold two five-round stripper clips of .30-06 ammunition for use with the M1903 Springfield and M1917 Enfield rifles. The belts are equipped with blackened brass and steel hardware, including the characteristic T-bar interlocking buckles and metal-rimmed grommets for the attachment of suspenders and field equipment. One belt displays clear markings on the interior adjustment tab with a bullet-shaped logo containing the word MILLS, dated JUNE 1918 with patent dates PAT JULY 16 07 and MAY 18 1915. The second belt is stamped L.C.C. & CO. in multiple locations, including stamps for LEFT 12-18 and L.C.C. & CO. 11-18 on the adjustment tabs.
Condition report:
Very good to excellent antique condition. The khaki canvas is strong and intact with minor storage soiling and light wear consistent with age. The blackened finish on the hardware is largely preserved with minor abrasions at high-contact areas. All fasteners and adjustment slides are functional. The stamped manufacturer markings and dates remain crisp and legible.
