Description
Two historical reproduction flags manufactured by Annin Flagmakers under the Nyl-Glo brand name. The first flag is a reproduction of the Join, or Die political cartoon originally published by Benjamin Franklin in 1754. It is constructed of white nylon with printed black graphics and features a double black border. The central image depicts a timber rattlesnake severed into eight sections, each labeled with colonial initials including S.C., N.C., V., M., P., N.J., N.Y., and N.E. The text JOIN, or DIE. is printed in a serif font along the bottom. The second flag is a Gadsden flag featuring a bright yellow nylon field. Centered is a printed graphic of a coiled timber rattlesnake in a strike-ready pose on a patch of green grass. The slogan DONT TREAD ON ME is printed in black sans-serif capital letters below the snake. Both flags feature a white canvas header with two brass-toned grommets for hanging. A small fabric tag is visible on the header of the Gadsden flag with the printed text NYL-GLO, identifying the manufacturer.
Condition report:
Both flags appear to be in excellent, unused or lightly used condition. The printed colors are vibrant and the graphics are crisp. There are no visible tears, staining, or fraying to the edges or headers. Standard fold lines from storage are present throughout both pieces.
