Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 95:
Sold for: $20
Description
This is a dark brown leather full-flap holster designed to accommodate a medium-to-large frame revolver, such as a Colt M1892 or similar .38 caliber service revolver. The holster is constructed from a single piece of heavy leather, folded and stitched along one side. A decorative embossed border featuring a wave or Greek key motif runs along the stitched seam. The closure system consists of a top flap with a buttonhole that fastens to a brass US Army General Service button. The button features the Great Seal of the United States, depicting an eagle with a shield, olive branch, and arrows, which is the standard pattern adopted by the US Army in 1902. The reverse of the holster features a wide, integrated leather belt loop secured with a single rivet. There are incised, field-applied marks on the front of the holster body that resemble the Greek letter pi and a slanted line. No manufacturer marks, ordnance stamps, or inspector cartouches are visible.
Condition report:
The holster is in fair to poor condition, showing significant signs of age and deterioration. The leather is extremely dry and stiff with extensive crazing and cracking across the entire surface, particularly at the flex point of the top flap. There is substantial loss to the original brown finish. The buttonhole on the flap is worn and enlarged. While the stitching appears mostly intact, there is visible fraying in several areas. A small white paper tag is tucked inside the holster body.
