Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 1048:
Description
This lot features a collection of eighty rounds of centerfire rifle ammunition specifically chambered for the 6.5x54mm Mannlicher-Schönauer cartridge. The ammunition is configured with 160-grain soft-point round-nose bullets, intended for sporting and hunting applications. The cartridges are contained within four original blue cardboard boxes from Old Western Scrounger Inc. of Montague, California, each featuring a running cheetah graphic. Transcription of the box markings include the caliber designation 6.5×54 Mann / Scho, the bullet weight and type 160 Grain Soft Point, and the primer specification Non-Corrsive Boxer Primed, which includes a notable period-correct misspelling of corrosive. The retailer information at the bottom left reads Old Western Scrounger Inc. Montague, Ca. The ammunition was manufactured using RWS components, with cartridge headstamps clearly marked RWS at the twelve o’clock position and 6,5×54 M-Sch. at the six o’clock position. The cartridges are secured in plastic or styrofoam trays within the protective outer boxes.
Condition report:
The ammunition is in overall very good, live condition. The brass cases remain bright with only minimal instances of light oxidation or handling marks. The copper-jacketed soft-point projectiles are well-seated and free of significant lead oxidation. Primers appear clean and properly seated. The cardboard packaging exhibits moderate shelf wear consistent with age, including edge fraying, some light staining, and minor scuffing. One box retains an adhesive paper label with a handwritten notation. The ammunition appears well-preserved for use or collection.
