Description
This is a Smith & Wesson .38 Double Action 2nd Model top-break revolver, a five-shot centerfire handgun originally intended for personal defense and law enforcement use in the late 19th century. The firearm features a 4-inch barrel with a full-length top rib and a fixed blade front sight integrated into the rib. Key markings on the barrel rib specify Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass. U.S.A. Pat’d Jan. 17 & 24. 65 / July 11. 65 Aug. 24 69 July 25. 71 Dec. 2. 79 May 11 & 25. 1880. The serial number 113380 is clearly stamped on the butt of the frame and is matched on the rear face of the cylinder. The receiver and cylinder retain some original nickel finish, although significant areas are worn to the underlying steel. The firearm is fitted with black checkered hard rubber grips featuring the embossed S&W monogram. The frame includes a top-break latch for extraction and loading, and the trigger guard is of the standard rounded configuration. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The overall condition is fair. The nickel finish shows heavy flaking, surface oxidation, and pitting across the barrel, cylinder, and frame. The bore shows signs of use with light corrosion and pitting throughout the rifling. The action appears to function correctly in both single and double-action modes, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The black hard rubber grips are in good condition with minor wear to the checkering and clear monograms. The cylinder chambers show light surface oxidation consistent with age.
