Description
This antique professional meat cleaver is a product of the Village Blacksmith brand, produced by the Washington Cutlery Company of Watertown, Wisconsin. The tool features a heavy carbon steel blade with full tang construction. The blade face bears a circular maker’s mark containing the text VILLAGE BLACKSMITH and STEEL FORGED. A large numeral 8 is incised into the steel near the handle junction. The blade profile is characterized by a broad, heavy form with a curved cutting edge, a squared nose, and a circular hanging hole in the upper lead corner. The handle consists of two dark-stained wood scales fastened to the tang with four large brass compression rivets.

Condition report:
The cleaver is in good antique condition, exhibiting signs of extensive professional use. The carbon steel surfaces show widespread pitting, oxidation, and a dark aged patina. Visible sharpening and grinding marks are present along the primary bevel. The wooden handle scales display wear and staining, with a prominent longitudinal crack appearing on one side near the bolster. The brass rivets show a natural patina with minor verdigris.
