Description
This lot consists of a two-piece cardboard box of Winchester Repeating Arms Co. .22 Short Smokeless Rifle Target Cartridges containing 50 rounds. The ammunition is packaged in its original box featuring a green top label with black and red text. Key markings on the label include 50 .22 CAL. RIFLE SMOKELESS CARTRIDGES and the manufacturer designation WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. alongside a globe trademark and a circular stamp for STETSON’S PATENT OCT 31 1871. Side panels identify the contents as 50 .22 SHORT TARGET CARTRIDGES (SMOKELESS). The box displays various production and date codes including 15, 1-20, 127, and 4-10. Each individual rimfire cartridge utilizes a brass case with a visible H headstamp and a greaseless lead bullet.
Condition report:
The two-piece cardboard box is in poor condition, exhibiting heavy wear, edge fraying, surface loss, overall discoloration, and several old tape repairs. The 50 rimfire cartridges show heavy oxidation and prominent green verdigris on the cases and lead bullets. The lot is sold as a collectible item and the ammunition is not recommended for use.
